The Australian prime minister slams Ted Cruz for his vaccine mandate tweet, saying, "You have no idea who we are."
He compared the death toll in his country to that in Texas, which was 70,000.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) received a strong rebuke from an Australian politician after Cruz expressed his views on a vaccine requirement for COVID-19 in the Northern Territory.
According to the Guardian, the Northern Territory government in Australia mandated immunizations for critical employees last week. One dosage must be given to these vital employees by the middle of November, and they must be completely protected by the 24th of December. Failure to obtain the vaccine may result in heavy penalties.
A few days after the mandate went into effect, Cruz reacted to it on Twitter, calling the government's decision "tyranny" and saying that it was a "disgraceful and terrible thing."
As Cruz had previously said, he sided "with the people of Australia" in opposition to vaccination mandates. A video of Northern Territory Chief Minister Michael Gunner appeared in a tweet from Texas Senator Ted Cruz.
Gunner finally got back to Cruz on Sunday night. Gunner responded to Cruz's remark with a long comment on Twitter, noting that although COVID has claimed the lives of over 70,000 people in Texas, there have been "zero fatalities in the territory." He went on to say that in the previous 18 months, the area had only been under lockdown for eight days.
Gunner said on Twitter, "We don't need your lessons, thanks buddy." We're strangers to you. As for standing with Australia, "you sure as heck don't stand with a life-saving vaccination"
Gunner went on to say the following: As much as I like Texas (Go Longhorns! ), I'm happy we're not COVID twins.
As one would expect, Gunner's reaction to Cruz, who often attracts the wrath of the internet, was mostly greeted with applause.
One Twitter user exclaimed, "The very greatest ass kicking of Ted Cruz!"
'This is bloody wonderful,' said a third person.
This is a brilliant use of evidence to disprove the claim. More of this is needed!" another person said.
Gunner's remark has gone unanswered by Cruz so far.
